Beauty & kitchen rituals for everyday magic

When I'm feeling flat, I have my own ritual to help bring me back to magic: I play a witchy tune, light a candle and pull an angel card or two. It almost always does the trick when I've had an off day and I'm feeling disconnected.
After a week of more "off" days than "on" I couldn't help but wonder... What if there was a way I could switch my perspective and start to see the things I do on the daily, my routines and habits, as opportunities for magic? I work in a corporate office and let's just say it would be frowned upon if I lit a candle, burned some incense and whipped out a tarot deck. What I'm talking about is everyday magic. The kind of rituals and tricks that you could sprinkle throughout your day without anyone even noticing. How would that look, exactly?
Beauty rituals
There has long been a connection between makeup and magic (HelloGiggles). In the 1700s, lipstick was allegedly condemned because it was thought that women were using cosmetics to trick men into marrying them. Let's be real. Makeup is sorcery. It straight-up has the power to change the way we feel. Instead of questioning it, let's use this knowledge and power to our advantage! When you're putting on makeup, or getting dressed or doing your hair, recognise that you don't need any of these things but that they're opportunities for you to channel the goddesses (and witches). Does glitter make you feel like a fairy? Dust that shit somewhere (that doesn't go against company policy). Wear your hair in waves if it makes you feel like a mermaid. Wear a long white dress if it makes you feel like a sylph or a siren (and you're into luring men to their death - no judgement). Even if no one else can see it, you'll feel more magical for it. While you do these things, set a positive intention. Something like, "I am courageous and strong, just like all the mythical creatures, goddesses and witches who've come and gone". Every time you look in the mirror or pass your reflection you'll be reminded of your intention.
Kitchen rituals
Chances are, you're going to eat at some point during your day. Use these moments to ground yourself and connect to Source. This ritual (inspired by AJ Jacobs TED Talk) works best with whole foods. Imagine you're eating a fresh fig. Hold it in your hand and feel the weight of it. Really look at it. Smell it. Before you take a bite, think about the journey this fig took to get to you. First there was a seed, then it was planted, then it grew into a tree which was harvested. Depending on where you bought it from, it probably had to be transported, packaged and put on the shelf - where it was finally ripe for the picking by yourself. Now if you think about the fact that you only paid however much for all that... that's some voodoo magic. If you haven't eaten it yet, set an intention: "I accept this most perfect and mysterious gift as proof that the Universe and everything in it is magic."
Every day is magical
The truth is, with or without these intentions, every day is mystical, marvellous, magnificent. Don't rush it.
